ABOUT

Special Projects Internship

As part of the Center for Democracy and Civic Life, I am facilitating political and community events to reach diverse studentsat UMBC. Currently, I am developing a toolkit designed to assist faculty with facilitating deliberative dialogue among students regarding the upcoming election cycle. Topics include establishing norms regarding dialogue on campus, intervention and de-escalation techniques, and incorporating civic engagement opportunities into the classroom. I am also creating a page detailing civic engagement opportunities for international, immigrant, and undocumented students who are unable to vote but want to be involved in the upcoming election.

TikTok Mental Health Research

As a small research team, we are discovering how the journey of self-diagnosis of mental illness unfolds on TikTok. Utilizing the TikTok API, we are collecting data from 100 videos sharing mental health and self-diagnoses stories to examine the path taken by TikTok users and the factors which may lead them to self-diagnose on TikTok.

Instruction, Facilitation, and Leadership

As an SI PASS leader for General Chemistry II, I facilitate an inclusive environment which encourages students to share their ideas, ask questions, and develop effective study habits. I am responsible for planning and creating materials for two hour-long sessions per week, as well as two hour-long review sessions prior to exams. Creating instructional materials, developing lesson plans, and co-teaching are responsibilities I hold as a teaching assistant for an introduction to the university course specifically for incoming CWIT students. Finally, I communicate student needs to representatives from universities across the state of Maryland as Student Representative for the Maryland College Learning Center Association.
